House Hunting: Contender 5

This home needs a little TLC, but nothing major or immediate needed and in a great area only .5 miles from the elementary school.  The best part is hands down the beautiful backyard.  I am seeing serious potential here…GREAT bones!

DIY: Photo Wall

With the holidays around the corner I wanted to order some additional prints for my grandma ( you should see this woman’s photo collection and there is nothing she loves more) and while hunting online I stumbled upon http://www.prinstagram.com .  It was love at first sight… The possibilities for these little square prints were endless.

I decided to create a picture wall.  I have seen a few on other blogs and love the personalized look so hunted down a victim in our apartment.  I choose the small entry  wall when you first enter the apartment.  Every other place I tried just seemed too cluttered.  Just my luck, these photos are 4 x 4 and My wall is 28 “.  PERFECT!  I aligned them and just used painters tape to slap them on the wall.  I love the look and plan to add to it throughout the year.

A December Weekend…

Still prepping for Christmas in this house.  I think I have about 80% of the shopping done, which is a good thing as I will be traveling for work next week.  This weekend was a day of fun/ a day of planning.  Saturday was “date night” special addition.  For Christmas, Mr. Holt gave me tickets to the Nutcracker Ballet… Can we say EXCITED ( under statement of the year!). We dressed up and hit the town, then ended the night college style with Wataburger in our formals 🙂 !  We are classy like that. On the way we also caught roof top fireworks…EPIC date night here people.

Sunday I headed off to my mom’s where the Christmas wrapping commenced in full force.  4 hours and 2 coffees later we still had not finished, but I sure had. This girl has stuff to do.

When I got home there was enough down time that evening for a quick chalking and craft, while watching the Christmas episode of the Big Band Theory.  I made a simple Christmas paper garland for my chalkboard ( it seemed naked).  The paper was 40% off at Michaels and cost me about $6, I had the other supplies handy.  For details, I blogged about  it here at http://www.houseofholts.wordpress.com/2014/10/19/DIY-paper-garland/ .

Chalk Obsession

You may remember my chalkboard DIY ( http://www.houseofholts.wordpress.com/2014/10/29/DIY-chalkboard/ ).  I have since become totally and completely obsessed with drawing, coloring, etc.  as well as stocking other bloggers boards.  It is pretty much  one step shy of creepy!  Anyways, I found the mother load of cool chalk colors this weekend at Michael’s for $6.99 in the kids craft isle, and was able to use a 40% off coupon.  I cannot wait to use that neon pink 🙂

DIY: Chalkboard

So, I see everyone has chalkboard art these days and I am all about it.  I have some chalkboard labels and a chalkboard globe in our apartment currently.  Once we have moved to a home, I will locate a victim for a Chalkboard wall ( poor mr. Holt).  But currently, I wanted a bigger space to doodle.  I looked online and in stores, I wanted something with clean edges and I kept finding very ornate framed boards, so I decided this was a perfect DIY candidate.  This cost me $17.  I bought a RIBBA frame from IKEA and I already had this black chalkboard paint from a few months back.  I simply painted the chalkboard paint onto the glass and then reframed.  It took about 3 coats, otherwise the beige walls would show thru in the light, but I am pleased with how it turned out and it is rather large, so plenty of doodle space.
