Fall Make Up Capsule 3: Planning

I cannot believe fall is already just around the corner….I am keeping my eyes open (aka stalking) Starbucks for the first glimpse of PSL, then it’s on!   In more relevant news, with a new season comes a new make up update.  I will once again admit, I am LOVING the quality v. quantity approach, as well as a defined area of my life to practice simplicity.  I have really come to appreciate a small yet complete makeup collection given all the traveling I’ve been doing lately and it’s not slowing down anytime soon with Phoenix, Houston, Orlando, Tucson, New Orleans and Madison coming up in the next 6 weeks.

Lessons learned…

I kind of missed the softer shades of eye shadow.  While I really love a black dark sexy smokey eye, I think I may be getting a little too old, or maybe just a little to lazy for this.  Plus, I am starting to get some wrinkles ( insert crying emoji), and dark shimmery shadows seem to only highlight this flaw. So Botox or a matte shadow palette?  Have I mentioned my deathly fear of needles, doctors, poisonous substances injected into your body?  The matte palette wins.

Moving on, I loved my contour brush.  More than anything…maybe even more than chapstick!   It stays!!!

A trend I will be embracing, the deep red “wine stained” lip.  I just need to complete some research on the right brand and color, but I am leaning towards NARS given my love for their heat wave lipstick.  Here is my plan for September thru November…

And just for giggles here is my favorite shot from my trip to Boston last week.  We took a private tour of Fenway Park… My history junkie husband is wearing off on me 😉  !!!!

Spring/ Summer Makeup Capsule: Round 2

Alright so here we are, the details of my second makeup capsule.  This will run from 3/15 to 10/15 and will consist of 15 pieces and a $200 budget .  Thus helps me to keep my beauty spending in check.  If I learned one lesson from my first time around, it is that white girls NEED bronzer.  Also, while I really liked some of my fall/ winter pieces, some are not necessary given the time of year.  I have 3 “levels” of makeup looks if you will.

Level One: This is my everyday look.  In my life this is for trips to target, travel days for work or running to my moms.  This simply includes primer, foundation, powder and Chapstick with light mascara.  Below is my inspiration photo.

Level Two:  This is for times where a little more is appropriate…aka work, lunch dates and church.  I build on level one but add bronzes for a sunny glow and a light shadow. Below is my inspiration photo.

Level Three: This is for special occasions where I intend and plan to spend more time primping.  I build on level two with a lip color or smokey eyes.  See my inspiration photo below.

So here we go with details. 4 brushes, 3 lip products, 1 eye shadow palette, mascara, powder, foundation, Bronzer, tanning lotion, spray Bronzer and primer.

New purchases include…

Tantalized Bronzer and self tanner.  I researched these in depth.  You know us white girls need some help in the tanning department.  I bought these using a 20% off coupon at Ulta and using my Ulta points for an additional $17 off putting me at $34.35.

The tanning spray I also researched in depth.  This is from Victoria Secret.  I have some concerns I may need to replenish before 10/15, but we will see.  This totaled $15.76.

The sculpting brush by Tarte and the Too Faced lip gloss were purchased at Sephora at a grand total of $62.34 ( no coupons 😦 )

The foundation was a replenish from Dillard’s and is Este Lauder.  This totaled $31.13.  With this purchase I got a free gift, which I kept the eye shadow palette ( yay FREE) and gifted the remaining items.

In total, $143.55.  Over 25 % under budget.  If only I could the same for our house hunt!!!  I plan to be more diligent with updates and looks this time around and become a selfie taker.  I have mixed feelings about that, but we will see.

Spring/Summer Makeup Capsule 2: Planning

I must admit I ended up absolutely loving the concept of a make up capsule and timing was just perfect after about 5 months I am just starting to run out.  It created the most stress free money saving situation for my make up routine…LOVE it.  So I will begin my Spring/Summer capsule on March 15th and will hold it until October 1st.  If you are not familiar, I will select only 15 items for make up throughout both seasons and will not make additional purchases until fall/ winter rolls around.  Therefore, I have been thinking hard and planning with great care.  I have also included my hair products, perfume and a new make up bag because mine is disgusting and an upgrade is needed.  Those items are not included in my 15 make up items, but landed on my inspiration/planning board below because I find them somewhat linked and am thinking of trial running a capsule for beauty ( non makeup) products.  More to come on that, but here are my plans and I will update accordingly with details, including look inspirations, prices and sources once I have purchased and finalized it.

Valentine’s Day..

Or it will be soon, so I thought I would share some of my favorites!

1- These glasses are from Anthropologie and I LOVE them.  They are a little on the pricey side, but I love the vintage feel.  They almost look like lace.  Also, they are not too Valentines-ish,  so could be used throughout the year.

2- Bath & Body Works candles.  The sweet pink shade and scent make this a perfect a Valentine’s Day purchase.

3- Miss Dior perfume.  This is my signature scent, but I love how feminine the bottle is, the light pink shade as well as a sexy scent.  This is perfect for the Valentine’s Day date!

4- NARS in heat wave.  While we are on the topic of date night, I have every intention to rock the red lip.  While also a little pricey for lipstick, this has hands down been my best beauty buy EVER.

5- A festive garland.  This is from Steph Loves Ben Etsy shop.  I love the look with the peach pop of color being so unexpected and price effective at $18.  I highly recommend this shop, she turns out great products and quick shipping.

6- I picked these up at Target last week.  I pave been obsessed with hot coco this winter not why not jazz it up Valentine’s Day style with pink heart shaped marshmallows.

13 Days Until Christmas

And what can I say, I have holiday on the brain 24/7!  Next week is our office gift exchange and a casual holiday meal.  This is my outfit plan. It is conservative enough to avoid judgement, casual enough to be comfortable and fun enough to express some personality.  I am also seriously loving my NARS lipstick this year in heat wave. I would highly recommend this color to us light skinned ladies.  The dress was found on Amazon, shoes are old Tahari from the last fall season and necklace is from J Crew Factory ( it may still be there for $25 on sale for 50% off).  The beauty supplies can be found at sephora and tights are $8 at Target.
